The Courage to Begin

Last month my husband and I attended an event at our children’s elementary school called Courageous Conversations about race and culture.  We met a diverse cross-section of parents and staff members and learned how we can be more intentional about speaking to our kids early and often about race.

A new look at old reads

Last month my daughter told me she was searching for something new to read.  My memory lit up like a Christmas tree as I thought of books from my childhood that might interest her.  When she didn’t open even one of them, I chose to do so myself, and as I revisited these old friends I noted repeated themes and considered how they shaped my interests and the way I live my life.

Crazy Rich Asians
by Kevin Kwan

While we had some critiques for the writing and the characters, we found this book highly entertaining and had fun comparing and contrasting the plot lines and fashions depicted in the book and the recent film.  Perhaps someday we will get to sample the hawker stalls of Singapore for ourselves!

Church Family Retreat | Winter 2019

Last month my family participated in our church’s Winter Family Getaway.  The theme Home Tones reminded us to fill our lives with the teachings of Christ and fill our hearts with thanks so that we can create a wonderful home tone through playing together, praying together, giving our treasures and learning to forgive each other.

Global Unites

Ever since Prashan De Visser, founder of Global Unites, spoke at our church last summer, I have been in awe of what this group is accomplishing worldwide to bring reconciliation to warring peoples.  In 2018, Mr. De Visser was awarded the Commonwealth Point of Light award for his work.  Consider donating to this incredible organization!
