I am thrilled to announce that today my writing was published for the first time ever.  Please toggle over to The Other Journal to read my essay Cultural Infusion, which is part of my memoir in progress called I Can’t See Where You’re Leading Me.   I am incredibly grateful to my writing coach Dorian Fox who both tipped me off to this submission and helped me revise the piece.  I am also thankful for my classmates who read this work during the 2020 Winter/Spring Master Memoir class at GrubStreet as well as my incredible writing group the Small but Mighties, which includes the fabulous writers Sylvia Baedorf Kassis, Pat Harney, Patty Mulcahy, and Leah Soumerai.

I have missed writing essays for this blog and hope to return to that next summer once I complete the Memoir Incubator at GrubStreet, an experience I have written about here,  here, and here.  Until then, I hope you and my book club will continue to discover new books and new ideas.

Thank you for reading!

Thank you for sharing this writing. I'm commenting to ensure that you know your hopes are seen and heard by me, and that they resonate.

I'm glad that you hosted the interfaith tea for your school Moms community (great idea to co-host with friends!) and that it was meaningful. There's an art to hosting, for sure, and its value resists quantification, since much of the impact is in a spiritual dimension.

I had a specific similar story of paying another Mom a visit that was re-membering itself in my mind as I was reading about your visit to Zahra's home. Overall, I'm empathetic to your expressions and thank you for writing them down. Best wishes with the Grub Street journey!

I am of the grandma age and wonderfully delighted by you essay on Cultural Infusion. The thing that struck me about you is your respect and generously of spirit. I lived in Cambridge during my graduate work, such fun. Now in Concord after many years of working with families. God's shows himself in many ways. Keep looking for his generous loving spirit. Your children are lucky to have such a great mom.
